Corn Refiners Association Statement on Proposed Changes to Nutrition Facts Label

WASHINGTON, DC – The Corn Refiners Association (CRA) appreciates that First Lady Michelle Obama and the Administration have taken the initiative to try to improve the Nutrition Facts Label for the benefit of consumers’ health.
It is important that consumers have the facts they need to make healthy choices. This can be achieved through effective changes to the Nutrition Facts Label that are based in sound scientific research. Through our educational campaign, the CRA has worked hard to provide this accurate nutritional information to consumers.
Diseases such as obesity and diabetes can be reduced through moderation and an overall balanced diet. Singling out specific ingredients is never the answer, and that is why it is essential for the Nutrition Facts Label to clearly explain the overall nutritional content of foods and beverages.
We are very pleased that the Obama Administration sees the value of helping consumers make choices about their food, and are eager to work with the FDA on changes to the Nutrition Facts Label that are based in sound science and will truly lead to healthy choices for millions of Americans.
The Corn Refiners Association (CRA) is the national trade association representing the corn refining industry of the United States. CRA and its predecessors have served this important segment of American agribusiness since 1913.
