CRA Trade Statement on National Ag Day Proclamation

March 21, 2017

The Corn Refiners Association (CRA) today praised the White House for its statement on trade, made within the President’s proclamation on National Agriculture Day.

“Today’s proclamation recognizes that free trade, improved trade balances and a successful agriculture sector are inextricably linked,” said John Bode, President and CEO of CRA. “Our industry’s exports not only deliver jobs at home, they are among America’s fundamental strengths abroad. We are heartened to know that this White House agrees and that they will seek to increase agricultural exports as they examine existing and future trade agreements.”

The proclamation states, in part:

American agriculture is the largest positive contributor to our Nation’s net trade balance, generating 10 percent of our exports and millions of American jobs.  America’s farmers and ranchers provide a safe and plentiful domestic food supply, which is vital to our national security.  Moreover, they safeguard our sustainable resource base for future generations.  As my Administration fights for better trade deals, agriculture will be an important consideration so that its significant contributions will only increase in the years ahead.
