CRA Welcomes Ruling in USMCA Dispute on Biotech Corn

December 20, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Corn Refiners Association President and CEO John Bode released the following statement following a dispute panel ruling in favor of the United States in a challenge over the trade compliance of Mexico’s efforts to ban genetically modified corn imports.

“CRA has long believed in the critical importance of science-based agricultural trade rules for the benefit of North American consumers and agricultural producers. The dispute panel report confirms that approach and opens the door for more affordable, sustainable food options throughout North America.

“We are grateful to the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, especially USTR Katherine Tai and Ambassador Doug McKalip, and its partners throughout the federal government, particularly Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and USDA Under Secretary Alexis Taylor, for their hard work in advocating for the best interests of the American corn industry.

“Today’s decision reinforces that trade policy should be based on science and allow North American consumers to benefit from the productivity and innovation of American farmers. We now welcome the opportunity to work with our friends in Mexico to achieve the benefits of agricultural innovation from corn fields to dinner plates.”
