Corn is nature’s renewable building block and plays a role every day in our lives. It’s a versatile resource that can be used for just about everything – from making our food taste better and our cosmetics last longer, to making our packaging more environmentally friendly and our medicines easier to swallow.

The kernel of innovation is everywhere – including in our office! Explore all the products corn is in below:

Hot Sauce

Xanthan gum enhances flavors and improves texture and stability in hot sauces. It also helps it cling to your favorite foods.

Healthier Eggs

Cyclodextrin, a cornstarch, can be used to significantly reduce cholesterol in egg yolks, and is found in products like heart-healthy mayonnaise.

Labeling

Dextrin is often used for bonding paper labels to plastic containers which hold everything from food to liquid soap.

Latex Medical Products

Cornstarch is used as an anti-stick agent for medical gloves and other latex products that come in contact with skin.

Liquid Hand Soap

In many cases, one-quarter of soap’s ingredients are corn-based, including corn oil and products made from bioprocessing. For example, xanthan gum thickens and stabilizes soap.

Low Fat Yogurt

Cornstarch makes low-fat yogurt creamy, smooth, and tasty by enhancing texture and keeping all the ingredients evenly mixed.

Mosquito Coil and Incense Sticks

Cornstarch allows these devices to burn longer without changing their chemical natures or increasing their ash content.

Matches

Cornstarch is used in match heads as a binder and to aid ignition. Paper match-sticks often include cornstarch to increase their rigidity.

High-Fiber Pasta

Resistant starch can be used to increase the fiber in pasta and may even help reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes.

Laundry Detergent

Cornstarch brightens fabric & removes dirt during the washing process. Citric acid, a corn product made through bioprocessing, increases the cleaning power & helps soften water.

Intravenous Solution

Patients with low blood sugar are often given IV drips, many of which contain dextrose, a corn derivative.

Jam & Fruit Preserves

Corn syrup brings out fruit flavors, enhances texture, and increases the spreadability of jams and fruit preserves.
