WASHINGTON, D.C. – Corn Refiners Association President and CEO John Bode released a statement concerning product reformulation away from the use of high fructose corn syrup (HFCS).
“Restaurants and food manufacturers may decide to use sugar versus high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) for many reasons, but doing so for the sake of public health does not align with the facts. Every authoritative scientific body to address the issue considers HFCS and sugar (as well as other caloric sweeteners, such as honey and agave) to be nutritionally equivalent. HFCS is from American corn refined by American workers. Every additional pound of sugar we use was grown overseas. Substitution of HFCS with sugar raises costs, hurts American workers and corn farmers, and requires more imported sugar, all without any public health benefit.”
